The story of Indian independence and the creation of Parkistan in 1947. A talk by Lt.-General Sir Barney White-Spunner K.C.B., C.B.E.
in the Hoskyns Memorial Hall, Middle Street, North Perrott, TA18 7ST.
on Friday 28th September at 7pm.
Sir Barney White-Spunner will give a Talk based on his bestselling book, marking the 70th anniversary of Partition, which stands out for its judicious and unsparing look at events from a British perspective and in which he never downplays the horrors of that terrible year. His book is at its most powerful in its month-by-month narrative of how Partition tore apart northern and eastern India, with the new state of Parkistan carved out of communities who had lived together for the past millennium. As the former commander of the British forces in Basra, he knows all about the challenges of governing an occupied people.
Signed copies of his book will be for sale. All are welcome to what will be a thoroughly interesting evening.
Tickets in advance to include light refreshments and a glass of wine. Adults £10 - 13 to 18 years £3 - under 12 years free.
